When did the Journey started....Part 2

The year is now 1986, I have been with Detachment 2 Malaysian Red Crescent Society also known as VAD 2 KL Barat based in Methodist Boys School, Sentul for a year already. The Commandant then was Mr. S. Sugumaran (outgoing) assisted by En. M.A. Shukor (later in the year he was the new Commandant) and Mr. S. Shreetharan.

Here I refine my marching skills and 1st aid knowledge. Participated in many public duties i.e. Thaipusam Festival at Batu Caves (1985-1989 with PBSMM WP & in 1990 was invited by PBSMM Selangor to perform the duty as PBSMM WP & Selangor has officially parted ways), National Day Celebration at Dataran Merdeka, Red Crescent Day celebration, Hari Raya Open House at Istana Negara and etc.

For 2 years (1985 - 1986) I attended and performed 1st aid duty during the Hari Raya Open House at Istana Negara hosted by the then DYMM Seri Paduka Baginda Yg DiPertuan Agong Sultan Iskandar of Johore. His Highness the Late Sultan of Johore was the 8th Yang DiPertuan Agong on Nov 15, 1984. Daulat Tuanku.

I remember an incident at the Istana ground after our duty as we fall-in to be briefed before we leave for home. The late Sultan came over and inspected the line. He then moved forward and pointed at someone in the line...and gesture to him to suck in his stomach as it's showing too much of it. We got a good laugh at it and left the Istana in high spirit after that. One of few memorable incidents of the late Sultan of Johore which I encountered during his tenure as the Agong.

Two significant years 1987 - I donated blood for the 1st time (had since donated another 9 times, the last in 2007) after attending to victims of a fire disaster at Kg. Keramat placed at the community hall and 1988 - being promoted to Corporal by Detachment 2.
