At my office - Kuala Lumpur Bodybuilding Federation

Even though I'm a volunteer with the federation, I generally spend a 9-5 office hours here from Monday-Friday. Federation meetings are fixed on Saturdays (afternoons) and if the need arises for me to do field work, the office will be closed for the day.

CEM546 - Seminar in Sports Medicine (International Certification in Sports Coaching Program)

Once again I was in class at National Sports Institute of Malaysia (ISN), Bukit Jalil. This time around it was for Sports Medicine. We have 10 participants for Session A as many are yet to return home from the Raya celebration.

An overview of Sports Medicine

Is to provide information and skills to enable the participants to understand the scope of sports medicine and how to apply these skills in an appropriate manner to the athletes.

Goals and Objectives:
  • Understand the scope of sports medicine and the roles of the personnel that make up the sports medicine team and their educational background.
  • To organize and implement a fitness testing protocol for athletes.
  • To design and progress a year round conditioning program for athletes based on scientific principles.
  • To establish an emergency plan for care of athletes.
  • To understand the importance of universal precautions and be able to implement these in care of injuries.
  • To be aware of vital signs and normal ranges and how to measure these signs.
  • To be able to perform basic CPR and emergency care.
  • To perform a basic primary and secondary survey of injuries.
  • To be aware of various tissues in the body and how injuries may affect these tissues.
  • To understand the relationship between nutrition, health and performance.
  • To be aware of the use of taping, wrapping and splinting in athletic injuries.
  • To understand the recovery and healing process and the use of therapeutic modalities and exercise in the recovery process.
  • To recognize how common medical conditions may impact an athlete.

Short brief of the courses I'm attending...

Course 1: 
Advance Sport Management Course  
by Olympic Solidarity and Olympic Council of Malaysia

Designed for volunteers and paid staff at the executive level of the National Olympic Committee, National Federations and other bodies responsible for the organisation and development of sports.

Consists of 6 modules:
  • Organising an Olympic Sport Organization
  • Managing Strategically
  • Managing Human Resources
  • Managing Finance
  • Managing Marketing
  • Organizing a major sporting event

Course Strategy

Is participant centred and taught through participative, interactive and experiential in nature. The course is delivered through four (4) sessions over an eight (8) months period with sufficient time in between for participants to do distance learning and prepare their case studies. Each section of four (4) days will involve short presentation of the modules, discussions of the content, group work and sharing of experiences and presentation of case studies.
