Kelab Gim Rakyat Bukit Kiara, Kuala Lumpur

At the recent concluded Kelab Gim Rakyat Bukit Kiara (JBS WPKL) annual general meeting, I was elected as the Chairman for the 2010-2012 session replacing the previous Chairman En. Mohd Isa bin Mohd Nor, PJK who has agreed to remain as the Club's Advisor.

With a new line-up of office bearers, KelGimBK is set to develop and represent Gim Rakyat sports for all to the surrounding communities in and around Bukit Kiara, Kuala Lumpur.

It's patronage with Jabatan Belia & Sukan Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur (Unit Kecergasan) will also strengthen the collaboration & relationship between a Government agency & public interest club.

When did the Journey started....Part 3

It's late 1990...for many years I have known N.Kumaralingam who was a member of the St.John Ambulance Malaysia (Selayang Combined Adults Division) who has been very patient asking me to come over and be a member of SJAM. We usually meet up for a couple of hours every weekday evening at the football field near my house and we would chat. He was the man between the post (goalkeeper). The field has since been replaced by a community center and a basketball court.

For 3 years he would try his best to convince me and I usually would politely decline the offer. Besides at the field we would usually meet at the steps of Batu Caves during Thaipusam Festival...he in SJAM uniform and I'm in the BSMM uniform.

Then one day in 1990, I asked him to take me to his Division as I would like to be a member. He was in utter shock but agreed to meet me the following Sunday at 2pm in SMK Selayang Baru where the division was based. That year, he was just promoted as the Acting Division Officer (ADO) as his predecessor En. S.Visvanthan Division Superintendent (DS) was promoted as the Area Staff Officer (ASO) for the new area  (Selangor Central Area = Kawasan Selangor Tengah) after the official separation of Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur and Selangor Darul Ehsan in 1990. 

Elan Devan was Division Sergeant (was on sick leave due to disc problem) and Mohd Rawi division Lans Corporal. Here I meet the rest of the division members including Ms. Prescilla Rudd. In a couple of months time (1991) we seat for our 1st aid exam...for those who were new, we can now call ourselves St.John Ambulance members. I continued to participate at the Thaipusam festivity but this time around I am with SJAM.

In 1992, I was seconded to the Area and was promoted as an Area Staff Officer in charge of KST Secretariat office at Kg Baru Sungai Buloh, Selangor. I too was given the task of taking charge of SMK Seaport division in Petaling Jaya as their Division Officer...in replacement of their missing officer.

1991 - Search & rescue team at the Bright Sparklers Firecrackers Fire Tragedy, Sungai Buloh
